Blaney holds off Shaffer for Lernerville All Star victory |
SARVER, PA. - (6-4-10)- By Brian Liskai- All Star Championship Racing, Inc. - Tim Shaffer threw everything at Dale Blaney Friday night at Lernerville Speedway, including slide-jobs the final two circuits. But, Blaney, a former Lernerville track champion and three time All Star champion, was able to hold him off to claim the O’Reilly Auto Parts All Star Circuit of Champions victory.
Blaney drove the Ti22 Performance Parts/George Fisher Racing #2 to his 74th career All Star victory, as he led all 30 laps. Shaffer, the defending All Star champion and current point leader and a former Lernerville Speedway champion, caught Blaney on the white flag lap, executing a slide job in turn two. Blaney pulled back around down the back stretch and Shaffer tried again in turns three and four, but Blaney drove back by for the victory.
Pittsburgh’s Danny Holtgraver continues to impress in 2010, as he finished third behind two of Lernerville’s finest exports.
Starting alongside of Holtgraver on the front row, Blaney jumped to the lead with Holtgraver in pursuit. While running third, Bob Felmlee brushed the front wall, ending his night.
As the race was just starting to take shape again, the fiery crash happened in front of the leaders. When the race resumed Shaffer quickly slid under Holtgraver to take second. David Gravel also got by Holtgraver as the leaders quickly reeled in lapped traffic. Blaney picked his way through traffic like a surgeon, but it allowed Gravel to close on Shaffer to challenge for second. Once clear of traffic, Shaffer pulled away from Gravel and began eating into Blaney’s lead.
Meanwhile Holtgraver stormed back to pass Gravel to regain third on lap 24. Shaffer began pressuring Blaney in the final few laps as the leaders battled in heavy traffic. “The Steel City Outlaw” pulled even with Blaney at the flag stand on both laps 27 and 28, but could not get enough forward bite to complete the pass.
Blaney would take his second Lernerville Speedway feature win in the last three weeks. Following Blaney, Shaffer and Holtgraver across the finish line was Gravel with Danny Smith rounding out the top five.
“I saw Tim’s nose with two to go…I knew I’d see him sometime in that race,” said Blaney in the Sheetz Victory Lane.
“We finally got the car feeling pretty good. We learned something the last three weeks and it started right here at Lernerville. We’ve been very competitive again. The car’s back to the way it felt last year,” added Blaney.
The night’s racing was marred by a horrific crash on the front stretch on lap 7 which included Charlie Holben, Pete Miller III and Scott Bonnell. Bonnell and Miller came to rest along the inside retaining wall while Holben’s car landed upside down just beyond the flag stand, bursting into flames. Driver Brent Matus unstrapped from his machine to help get Holben out of his burning car. Holben was airlifted to a Pittsburgh hospital where he is listed in fair condition. Cards and well-wishes may be sent to UPMC Mercy, 1400 Locust St., Pittsburg, PA, 15219 or online at ecards.upmc.com in care of Charlie Holben. |

O'Reilly Auto Parts All Stars to take on PA Posse again |
CAMARGO, IL -(6-2-10) -By Brian Liskai- All Star Championship Racing, Inc.- So far in 2010, the local drivers have proven to be tough to tame when the O’Reilly All Star Circuit of Champion Sprint Cars pay a visit and it will just as tough this weekend. The travelling All Star teams are set for a Pennsylvania weekend, Friday, June 4 at the fast Lernerville Speedway in Sarver, Pa., and Saturday in the heart of the PA Posse land, Port Royal Speedway. This is the second venture into the tough Pennsylvania racing state for the All Stars in 2010. On April 30, Lance Dewease dominated at Williamsgrove Speedway, and the next night it was “Fast” Freddie Rahmer taking the win at Lincoln Speedway. However, defending All Star Champion and current point leader Tim Shaffer is looking strong again, coming off a close second-place run to Bryan Sebetto at Fremont Speedway on May 29. Two-time All Star Champion Greg Wilson is also showing his team will be a force to contend with. We’re excited to compete with some of the toughest weekly competition in the United States,” said Guy Webb, All Star President. Both George and Felmlee have wins at the historic track. General admission tickets are $20 for adults, $18 for senior citizens and $15 for teens. Pit passes are $35 or $25 for DIRTcar members. And, the track’s tough local competitors like current point leader Rick Lafferty and former World of Outlaws drivers Justin Henderson, Greg Hodnett and Tyler Walker along with Chad Layton, Mike Erdley, Dave Ely and more will make it even more challenging for the All Star drivers.

Bryan Sebetto scores All Star victory at Fremont |
Fremont, OH (May 29, 2010) - Brian Liskai- All Star Championship Racing, Inc. - Bryan Sebetto drove the race of his young life. It could be compared to David verses Goliath. The 27-year-old Fremont, Ohio driver held off former Outlaw driver and defending All Star champion Tim Shaffer the last 14 laps of the feature to claim his first ever O'Reilly Auto Parts All Star Circuit of Champions victory on Kear's Speed Shop Night.
Shaffer had actually gotten by Sebetto on lap 35, but a caution for a blown left rear tire for Randy Hannagan put Sebetto back on the point. He drove the high side of the track to perfection while Shaffer tried several times to drive under him but to no avail.
"This is incredible. To get my first All Star win like that in front of allthese hometown fans, it's just awesome," said Sebetto beside his Steven Mapus Tools, Schiets Motorsports, R&R Auto Wrecking backed #16. "I saw Tim (Shaffer) under me, but I had to stay up top and keep up my momentum. Itried the bottom to get around lapped traffic but I just wasn't good down there."
"This is huge for mom and pop Burmeister. They've put so much into this sport and to have Sonny inducted into the Fremont Speedway Hall of Fame next week and get an All Star win for him is very special. They've made me a part of their family. And to Mikey Sommers and Rollie and all the kids that come to the shop every night.thank you, thank you, thank you," added Sebetto in the Engine Pro Victory Lane.
During the closing laps of the feature, Shaffer reeled in Sebetto using the low line, but two late cautions kept him from using lapped traffic to take the lead.
"Hats off to Bryan, he drove a heck of a race. That's what it's all about, putting on a great show for the fans," said Shaffer beside his Kistler Engines, Kistler Racing Products #83.
Dean Jacobs, who ran in the top three the entire feature, came home third and is pleased with the progress the young team is making.
"Rich Farmer is doing a heck of a job with this place, you could move around, you could race it was a blast. Things are really coming together for this team. Big Matt is doing a great job with the race car. He's one of my best friends and that makes it so much fun. Joe and Diane are doing everything I could ask as owners. They are giving me a nice race car. We keep going we're going to get some wins," said Jacobs beside his Northwest Ohio Towing and Recovery, NAPA Truck & Auto Center backed #97.
Sebetto, who started on the pole thanks to the Pick 6 card pull by a very special youngster - his two siblings drown this spring in the Sandusky River - grabbed the early lead with rookie Jared Ridge right on his rear bumper with Jacobs moving into third. Sebetto road the outer rim to hit lapped traffic by lap 9 allowing Ridge to close while Jacobs had his hands full with quick qualifier Shaffer, Danny Smith and Rob Chaney. Sebetto picked his way through traffic and pulled away slightly while Jacobs caught Ridge for second. Despite being in heavy lapped traffic that were racing side by side,no one could close in on Sebetto. A caution when Danny Smith and Rob Chaney got together on lap 15 gave Sebetto a clean track and he used it to pull away. Meanwhile Ridge, Jacobs and Shaffer waged a tremendous battle for second with Brandon Wimmer moving from 12th to fifth.
With Sebetto in command and the race for second a good one, the big crowd started to pay attention to Byron Reed, who had won twice at Fremont in 2010, as he moved from 19th to 8th by lap 17. At the halfway mark, Sebetto continued to lead over Ridge, Jacobs, Shaffer, Wimmer, Reed, Mark Keegan and 24th-starting Randy Hannagan. The caution would fly on lap 25 for a Brock Mayes spin, just as Sebetto was once again hitting heavy lapped traffic and Shaffer had moved around Jacobs into third. On the restart, the power-steering pump would go out of Ridge's mount, allowing Shaffer to take second and moving Jacobs to third.
Sebetto built a sizeable lead, but Shaffer used the low grove to begin closing with eight laps remaining. Shaffer rocketed off the bottom of turn two to steal the lead after completing the 34th lap, but the caution would fly for Lee Jacobs, handing the lead back to Sebetto, Sebetto would not budge from the top shelf, and Shaffer continued to poke the nose of his sprinter under him, but it did not rattle Sebetto. The two raced side-by-side the next two laps before the caution would fly for Hannagan's shredded tire, ending his great run from 24th to fourth. On the restart,Sebetto was able to hit his marks but Shaffer mounted one last challenge, but slipped up a little in turn three, allowing Sebetto to get away for the win. Shaffer, Jacobs, 15th-starter Greg Wilson and Ridge would round out the top five.

PA Classic Takes Center Stage Port Royal Speedway |
Camargo, IL (5-5-10) by Kelly Brown - Public Relations Director –This weekend a legendary event at Port Royal Speedway is going to be ran. The O'Reilly All Star Circuit of Champions will be traveling to Pennsylvania again this weekend, so that can only mean one thing - it is time for the Bob Weikert Memorial. Two consecutive nights of racing will feature high-speed racing action between the All Stars and PA Posse on Saturday, May 8 and Sunday, May 9.
This weekend’s All Star PA Posse clash will mark the 8th running of the Bob Weikert Memorial, but Port Royal has been a part of the All Star schedule for more than a decade. The inaugural race for the All Star Sprint Circuit of Champions at Port Royal was run in 1981 with Dave Wickham as the victor. Since then the track has been the host of 19 All Star events. Former winners of the Bob Weikert Memorial include: Fred Rahmer, 2003, 2004; Todd Shaffer, 2005; Dewease, 2006; Greg Hodnett, 2007; Jeff Shepard, 2008 and Stevie Smith, 2009. This weekend’s event will be unique since the winner in the first night of racing action will automatically be locked into the feature on the second night, so there in an incentive for doing well on night one.
Last year Stevie Smith swept both nights of racing action at Port Royal Speedway. On night one he battled pole sitter Todd Shaffer. It was a thrilling night of racing as Shaffer and Smith traded the lead several times before Smith got an edge and drove on to victory. On night two, the All Star versus PA Posse rivalry took the spotlight as Smith and three-time All Star Champion Dale Blaney battled for the win. At the end of the night though, Smith would get through traffic more smoothly than Blaney and drive on to Victory Lane.
Ticket Information
On Saturday night the gates will open to fans at 5:00 pm, with warm ups at 6:30. Adult tickets will run $17 with student (ages 12-17) running $10, and those under 12 are free.
