Blaney's victory at Bubba Raceway Park is 85th UNOH All Star win
2012_Blaney_ASCOCOCALA, FL (2-24-12) By Brian Liskai – Dale Blaney sees every race as an opportunity to learn something. On Thursday at Bubba Raceway Park, “The Low Rider” had to settle for a second place run on a narrow track. Friday, when given the opportunity once again to start up front, he took the experience from the previous night, and grabbed the early lead and went on to his 85th career victory with the University of Northwestern Ohio All Star Circuit of Champions.

“We’ve been up front all weekend…the car’s been good. Last night I just didn’t get the jump on Danny (Lasoski) and the track was narrow and there was nothing I could do after that. I’ve been lucky enough to qualify well and put myself in a position to start up front. Qualifying has been the name of the game down here,” said Blaney beside his George Fisher owned, Ti22 Performance backed machine.

For Blaney, a three time UNOH All Star champion, his first win of 2012 moves him to within 13 victories from tying the series’ all-time feature winner Kenny Jacobs.

Fast qualifier Daryn Pittman, who opened the All Star season with a win at Screven Motor Speedway two weeks ago, would chase Blaney the entire race and would come home second. Pittman’s consistent finishes have him atop the UNOH All Star point standings both nationally and for the Eastern Region.

Texas native Sam Hafertepe Jr. continued his strong opening season runs to come home third with his new Zemco Speed Equipment team.

“We didn’t get a good start to the season in Georgia. Then we went to Volusia and blew a tire the first night, but since then we’ve finished in the top 10 every night. We are starting to click as a team,” said Hafertepe. “We had so much rain down here the previous two days…the track was pretty much one groove. But, tonight it was starting to slick off and widen out. Tonight (Saturday) it should be much better for racing.”

Blaney and Pittman would pace the field to the green for the 30-lap main with Blaney getting the jump and the lead. George Riden would spin in turn three on lap two to bring out the first caution. Blaney would continue to lead on the restart over Pittman, Hafertepe, Fred Rahmer and Aaron Ott. Riden would stop in turn one on lap five to bring the caution out once again. After the green came back out, Cole Duncan would get upside down exiting turn four (he was okay). The restart order would continue to be Blaney, Pittman, Hafertepe, Rahmer and Ott.

The leaders would hit lapped traffic by lap 10, allowing Pittman to close on Blaney. Danny Smith would slap the backstretch wall on lap 18, stopping on the track. Paul May and Brad Wickham would go pit side during the caution.

With a clear track, Blaney would pull away the remaining 12 laps for the victory over Pittman, Hafertepe, Rahmer and Danny Lasoski. Rounding out the top 10 were Ott, defending UNOH All Star champion Tim Shaffer, Cap Henry, David Gravel, who experienced engine woes in qualifying and earned the hard charger honor coming from 24th starting spot, and Danny Holtgraver.

Fantasy League enters 4th Season
CAMARGO, IL (2-24-12) By Brian Liskai – Do you think you can pick which University of Northwestern Ohio All Star Circuit of Champions driver will win each night? If so, you should join the UNOH All Star Circuit of Champions Fantasy League, which is now entering its fourth year of competition.

Last season, the All Star Fantasy League champion was Andy Anderson’s team of Black Deuce. In 2011, the All Star Fantasy League changed its format to a regional bracket for drivers as the series incorporated an Eastern Region, Ohio Region, Great Plains Region and National champion. Also last year, fantasy team owners were able to pick drivers from each region along with a national touring driver.

This change helped the league grow in popularity last year.

Something new for 2012…teams will be allowed to make up to four roster changes throughout the season. When a fantasy team makes a roster change, they may change one driver or all five drivers with one move. This will cause fantasy team owners to pay close attention to what track the UNOH All Stars will be competing at during the season. Fantasy teams can take advantage of putting a driver in their line-up if that driver has overwhelming success at a particular track.

UNOH All Star Circuit of Champions would like to thank Fantasy Dirt Racing for helping bring fantasy racing to fans all around the world.

Lasoski finding Florida to his liking, wins second UNOH All Star feature of 2012
Lasoski Vicotry Lane 2012 FloridaOCALA, FL (2-23-12) By Brian Liskai – Though he hails from Dover, Missouri, Danny “The Dude” Lasoski found his winter home of Ocala, Florida to his liking Thursday. Lasoski, piloting his own #33 Triple X Chassis, Kistler Engines powered machine, scored his second University of Northwestern Ohio All Star Circuit of Champions feature event of 2012 in the Sunshine State to open the three straight nights of racing at Bubba Raceway Park.

Lasoski, who set quick time in Kistler Engines Qualifying, ran from sixth to third in his heat and won the Outwears Performance Products Dash to earn the pole position to start the 30 lap feature. He would bolt into the lead at the drop of the green, but the action ground to a halt when Luke Hall flipped (he was okay). The race went back to green and Lasoski, in the Todd Creason, Tony Ross, Klein Motors and RV’s backed machine, would lead three time UNOH All Star champion Dale Blaney as they would soon race into traffic. The quick pace of the race would be slowed with just four laps to go when the caution flew. Lasoski, who also won an All Star event last week at Volusia Speedway, used the clear track to power to his 35th career All Star win to move him into 15th on the series’ all-time win list.

“It certainly helped to start up front. The track was narrow thanks to Mother Nature and the rain we got the day before. But, you still had to have the car work well and the motor had to be on. I have to say this Triple X Chassis suits my driving style and Paul Kistler gives me an awesome motor,” said Lasoski. “It’s pretty cool to be one win away from Steve Kinser on the All Star win list.”

Blaney would drive his George Fisher Racing, Ti22 Performance #2 to a second place finish, to complete a good day for the family as his brother Dave raced his way into the Daytona 500. Tim Shaffer, the defending and three time UNOH All Star champion, would come home third in his Aaron Call/Janet Holbrook owned, Kistler Engines backed #83 while Sam Hafertepe came in fourth in his Zemco Speed Equipment #1z with Aaron Ott in the Hamilton Motorsports/Don Ott Engines/Miller Bros. Chevrolet backed #77 rounding out the top five.

“There was very little passing tonight. When I put 29 tear-offs on when I’m starting on the front row should tell you how wet and heavy the track was,” said Blaney. “I got to Danny a couple of times, but I was never in a position to pass…even in lapped traffic.”

Dollansky uses high line to take second night at Volusia

Barberville, Fla. (2-16-12)By Brian Liskai– Last year at VolusiaSpeedwayPark, Craig Dollansky thought he had a couple of wins but saw them disappear. On Thursday, “The Crowd Pleaser” charged from his eighth starting spot to pass Daryn Pittman on a lap 9 restart to take the lead and went on to score the win on the second night of the University of Northwestern Ohio All Star Circuit of Champions competition at the 41st Annual UNOH DIRTcar Nationals presented by Summit Racing Equipment.

“It was a beautiful race traVolusia Night 2ck tonight…they worked hard on it was racey..obviously if I came from eighth. This was a total team effort,” said Dollansky beside his Big Game Tree Stands, Aggressive Hydraulics, Aeroquip Performance Products backed #7. “This one is for Anita Zwern…she was the biggest World of Outlaws fan…the biggest sprint car fan in the world.”

“Last year we led a lot of laps here…we should have come out of here with at least two wins. So to get a win here to night heading into the World of Outlaw race is huge,” added Dollansky of his sixth career UNOH All Star win and his fourth career win at Volusia.

Current UNOH All Star point leader, who opened the series with a win a week ago in Georgia, was disappointed with his runner-up finish aboard his Heffner Racing, Lelands.com backed #27.

“To lead that many laps and not win….we just got beat. During that caution (lap 9), I heard a seven car was in second on the radio. I was waiting to hear if it was a 7s or 7. If it was the 7s (Jason Sides) I knew he would be on the bottom. Then I saw it was the 7 (Dollansky) and I knew he would be up top. After he passed me I went up there and tried to get to him but it was too late,” said Pittman.

Wednesday night’s winner Danny Lasoski, who has won more sprint car races at Volusia than any other driver, would come home third.

“I’m happy with a third with our own car. I have to thank Penske Shocks, Kistler Engines and Triple X along with Todd Creason and Tony Ross for getting us down here,” said Lasoski beside his Klein Motors and RVs backed #33.

Daryn Pittman and Cody Darrah would bring the field of 24 to the green with Pittman grabbing the top spot over Lasoski. Dollansky was flying around the top, passing cars wholesale as he moved from eighth to third in the first lap. Dollansky would take second on the second circuit. As Pittman continued to lead, Lasoski would battle back to challenge Dollansky for second with Cody Darrah and Brad Sweet in tow. Pittman would hit the back of the pack on lap eight and this allowed both Dollansky and Lasoski to close.

The first caution would fly on lap nine as three time UNOH All Star champion Tim Shaffer spun in turn two. Dollansky narrowly escaped disaster as he squeezed between the spinning Shaffer and the outside wall. The restart order was Pittman, Dollansky, the lapped machine of Glenn Styres, Dollansky, Sweet, Darrah, Greg Hodnett, Sam Hafertepe Jr., Joey Saldana, Kraig Kinser and Steve Kinser, up from 17th. During the caution, three time series champion Dale Blaney would go to the work area and was unable to restart.

On the ensuing restart, Dollansky would blast to the outside and take the lead while Darrah moved into third as Lasoski fell to fourth and Hodnett moved into fifth. That would remain the running order until lap 14 when Lasoski regained the third position.

Dollansky would hit lapped traffic by the 17th circuit but held a 1.25 second lead over Pittman with Lasoski, Darrah and Hodnett in tow. As Dollansky tried to negotiate through the traffic, Pittman slowly reeled him in and with five laps to go, was on the leader’s rear bumper. Dollansky and Pittman battled for the lead over the next two circuits with Lasoski, Hodnett and Darrah chasing. Dollansky would clear the traffic with two laps remaining and would power away for the win. Pittman, Lasoski, Hodnett, Sweet, Saldana (up from 13th), Darrah, Sammy Swindell, Sam Hafertepe and Steve Kinser (up from 17th) would round out the top 10.

The UNOH All Star Circuit of Champions now head to BubbaRacewayPark in Ocala, Fla. to wrap up their “Southern Swing” with three nights of racing, Feb. 23-25.

Danny Lasoski wins Night 1
Volusia Night 1Barberville, FL (2-16-12)By Brian Liskai – There’s just something about Volusia Speedway Park that brings out the best in Danny “The Dude” Lasoski. The Dover, Missouri driver passed Craig Kinser on lap 19 and went on to score his 18th career win at the track during the University of Northwestern Ohio All Star Circuit of Champions event during the 41st Annual UNOH DIRTCar Nationals presented by Summit Racing Equipment.

Lasoski, a former World of Outlaws champion and many time Knoxville Raceway and Knoxville Nationals champion, is fielding his own team in Florida before joining the Chiappelli/Grubb Motorsports #98 to compete in Pennsylvania and other select shows throughout 2012.

“I got one guy from Pennsylvania who came down here to help me. This is huge to get a win down here. I have to thank Triple X Chassis, Klein Motors and RVs, Paul Kistler and Kistler Engines and Creason Motorsports,” said Lasoski of his 34th career All Star win.

Kinser, piloting his father, Steve’s #11k with sponsorship from Mesilla Valley Transportation, said a deflating left rear tire ended his bid for the win.

“I don’t like going backwards, but Danny was just better than us on the bottom. I abused my tires bad trying to get through lapped traffic. And on that last red flag I had a left rear going down. But, we’ll take a second our first night out,” said Kinser.

Three time and defending UNOH All Star champion Tim Shaffer would drive from his 10th starting spot to a third place finish.

“I have to thank my owners Aaron Call and Janet Holbrook. Aaron is doing a lot of the work on this car along with James and John…we have some new guys involved this year and they are working hard,” said Shaffer. “I have to thank Kistler Engines, VRP Shocks and J&J Chassis.”

Son and father, Kraig and Steve Kinser, would pace the field to the green. Kraig Kinser would grab the lead while Steve Kinser and Daryn Pittman, who opened the UNOH All Star season with a win last week in Georgia, battling for second with Lasoski, Dale Blaney and David Gravel in tow. Jack Haudenschild would stop with brake problems on lap four to bring out the caution with the running order Kraig Kinser, Steve Kinser, Pittman, Lasoski, Blaney, Gravel and Jason Sides (up from 12th). The car on the move was the #14 of two time and defending World of Outlaws champion Jason Meyers, who had moved from last to 15th.

On the restart, Lasoski would drive around Pittman into third. With seven laps in, Kraig Kinser held a two second lead over Steve Kinser with Lasoski and Pittman in tow. Meanwhile, Meyers had driven up to 11th.

Kraig Kinser would hit lapped traffic on the ninth circuit, and as he struggled to put Dave Blaney a down a lap, Steve Kinser quickly closed for the lead. With 10 laps in the books, son and father battled for the lead, with Lasoski now closing. At the half-way point the running order was Kraig Kinser, Steve Kinser, Lasoski, Pittman and Dale Blaney. On lap 18, Lasoski would drive under Steve Kinser into the runner-up spot, and would drive into the lead a lap later.

With 10 laps to go, Lasoski began to pull away while Kraig Kinser ran second and Dale Blaney moved into third. On lap 23, Lasoski was now having problems picking his way through traffic, and Kraig Kinser closed while smoke began billowing from Blaney’s mount. Blaney would exit the track on lap 26 as Shaffer moved into third.

The action would grind to a halt on lap 28 as Sam Hafertepe Jr. got upside down. The running order on the restart would be Lasoski, the lapped car of Tony Stewart, Kraig Kinser, Shaffer, Steve Kinser, who had a left rear tire going flat, Sides, Gravel, Pittman, Joey Saldana, Craig Dollansky and Meyers. Steve Kinser would spin in turn one on the restart, setting up another green-white-checkered finish.

Lasoski would pull away the final two circuits for the win over Kraig Kinser, Shaffer, Gravel and Sides.

Tony Stewart Wins Night 2 of Winter Freeze
tsrSYLVANIA, GA. (2-11-12) By Brian Liskai- On a night when even the most talented of veteran sprint car drivers struggled, Tony Stewart once again proved he is one of the best racers of all time. The three-time NASCAR Sprint Cup Champion put his winged 410 sprint car where no others dared to go on a frozen, rubber-down track, and passed Jason Sides coming to the white flag and went on to win his first ever University of Northwestern Ohio All Star Circuit of Champions feature on the final night of the Second Annual Winter Freeze at Screven Motor Speedway.

In a bold move, Stewart, a former USAC sprint, midget and silver crown champion and Indy Car champion, took his Home Depot, Mobil 1, Coca-cola backed #14 to the high side of the frozen track with 10 laps to go while the other competitors stuck to the rubber on the bottom of the track. It paid off as he passed Fred Rahmer and Terry McCarl and quickly closed on race-long leader Jason Sides. As the leaders finished the 28th lap, Stewart drove around Sides exiting turn two to grab the lead and went on to the win.

On a cold, crazy night for the second night of action at Screven, Paul McMahan, Brad Wickham and Danny Lasoski experienced mechanical woes early in the night with McMahan and Wickham scratching from the action.

After just a lap of the 30-lap feature, Alan Krimes, Jack Sodeman Jr. and T.J. Winegardner get together on the front stretch bringing out the caution. Pole-sitter Sides would lead at the restart over McCarl, Rahmer, Stewart and Sam Hafertepe Jr. On lap 6, Mark Smith would stop on the speedway with mechanical difficulties bringing out another caution. On the ensuing restart, Greg Hodnett, Jac Haudenschild, Danny Smith and Sodeman spin together in turn one, with Haudenschild and Hodnett retiring to the pits.

On lap 7, fifth place running Hafertepe would spin in turn four with the restart running order now Sides, McCarl, Rahmer, Steward and Cody Darrah. On the restart, the single file parade around the bottom would continue through the halfway point until Pete Miller and Sodeman spin in turn four. It was Sodeman’s third incident during the race and he was sent to the pits.

With only 15 laps in the books, the UNOH All Star officials decided to bring the race to a halt for a fuel stop as the cars had run 55 laps under green and caution combined.

When the race resumed, Sides would continue to lead McCarl, Rahmer, Stewart and Darrah. But, with five laps to go, Stewart had grown tired of the bottom parade and put his car on the high side of the track where no one else had dared to go. Stewart quickly dispatched Rahmer and McCarl and set his sights on Sides. Exiting turn two on lap 27, Stewart, who won his first career World of Outlaws feature last season, drove around Sides and led the field the remaining two laps.

Sides would drive his Wetherington Tractor Service, King Racing Products, BR Motorsports machine home in second with Darrah in his Kasey Kahne Racing machine third. McCarl, Joey Saldana, hard-charger Dale Blaney (up from 22nd starting spot), David Gravel, Logan Schuchart, defending UNOH All Star champion Tim Shaffer and previous night’s feature winner Daryn Pittman rounded out the top 10.

The UNOH All Stars now move to Volusia Speedway Park in Barberville, Fla. Wednesday and Thursday, Feb. 15 and 16 as part of the 41st Annual University of Northwestern Ohio DIRTcar Nationals presented by Summit Racing Equipment. Each night will pay the feature winner $5,000.

Pittman wins 1st night of Winter Freeze at Screven

FREEZE WINTER
SYLVANIA, GA. (2-10-11) By Brian Liskai – The difference a few months can make.

For Daryn Pittman, when the rescheduled Winter Freeze at Screven Motor Speedway was postponed late in 2011, it took away the opportunity to win the University of Northwestern Ohio All Star Circuit of Champions Eastern Region championship. Pittman came back to Screven determined to not let that championship get away again. Friday night he proved he will be a contender for that All Star title, leading all 30 laps to claim the $5,000 prize to open the series’ 2012 season.

Pittman finished just 17 points behind Lance Dewease in the UNOH All Stars’ final Eastern Region points and its $20,000 payday in 2011. On Friday, the Owasso, Oklahoma native and now Pittsboro, Indiana resident held off several challenges from young gun David Gravel of Watertown, Connecticut – including a green-white-checkered finish - to claim his sixth career All Star win.

“You can’t live in the past. Obviously we would have loved to have battled Lance for the championship last year. He was hurt and couldn’t race for the championship and I didn’t want to win it like that. But, for us to come down here and win…you couldn’t ask for a better start to the year,” said Pittman beside his Heffner Racing machine.

“This proves Shawn and guys worked their tails off over the off season. The opening races are about preparation…who has done the best job in the off-season. We took the car we won the last race of the year with and shipped it to Australia to use. So this was a new car, but this team knows what they are doing,” added Pittman about his Lelands.com, Pasquariello’s Body Shop, Danny’s Auto Sales backed #27.

The All Star opener began with Tim Shaffer, who has won the last three straight series’ championships, grabbing the lead, but it was short-lived as The Steel City Outlaw suffered a broken front end in turn one. On the complete restart, Pittman grabbed the lead with Gravel and fellow 19-year-old driver Logan Schuchart in pursuit.

The caution would fly on lap eight when Gregg Hodnett spun in turns three and four. The running order was Pittman, Schuchart (the grandson of legendary sprint driver Bobby Allen), Gravel, Mark Smith and Aaron Ott. By the halfway mark of the 30-lap affair, Pittman was trying to pick his way through traffic and could not shake Schuchart or Gravel as NASCAR champion Tony Stewart and Hodnett go pit side.

The Wild Child Jac Haudenschild would spin on lap 16 and retire to the pits. When the race returns to green, Gravel would drive around Schuchart for second and stay on Pittman’s rear bumper. With six laps to go, Gravel begins battling with Pittman for the lead. As the field comes to the white flag, Sam Hafertepe Jr. spins to necessitate a green-white-checkered finish. Pittman would hold off Gravel to take the opening night of the second annual Winter Freeze.

Gravel, Schuchart, Smith, Ott, Paul McMahan (up from 15th), Alan Krimes, Dale Blaney, Terry McCarl and Jason Sides (up from 20th) would round out the top 10.

After winning one of the final World of Outlaw races of 2011, Gravel couldn’t wait to get back to competition in 2012 and his second place run proved he will be a contender for the UNOH All Star title.

“I was so excited to get back to racing. I think we are building something here. Tyler (Swank) had the car great tonight,” said Gravel beside his DDR Motorsports #89.

“That last caution killed us…I think we might have had something for Daryn. I had pulled the wing back and it made the car very tight on the restarts. It took me two or three laps to get going,” added Gravel beside his JRC Transportation, Musco Fuels, P&M Transportation, Model Craft backed machine.

Schuchart, in his first full season of 410 sprint racing, showed his Shark Motorsports, Speedway 94, Don Ott Racing Engines backed team will also be a force to be deal with throughout 2012.

UNOH All Stars set to begin 2012 season with "Winter Freeze"
ImageCAMARGO, IL (Friday, Feb. 2, 2012) By Brian Liskai- The University of Northwestern Ohio All Star Circuit of Champion Sprint Car Series will kick off their exciting 2012 season in a big way as the teams head “down South” for seven big races.

All of the February events will be part of the All Stars’ Eastern Region Points battle, which will pay the champion $20,000 at the end of the season.

It begins in a huge way when the UNOH All Stars visit Screven Motor Speedway (www.screvenmotorspeedway.com) for the Second Annual Winter Freeze, Feb. 9-11. The Second Annual Winter Freeze will feature the UNOH All Stars, the Screven Late Models, Crate Late Models, Go-Karts and more. Fans across the country will be entertained by some of the best racing in the country at the three-eighths mile high banked track that has been dubbed “The Action Track of the South.”

Monday through Wednesday (February 6 - 8) Screven will host practice sessions for any team interested in getting in some time at the speedway. Teams that are interested in participating can do so at a cost of $50 per team. The track will be prepped each day by promoter James “Redd” Griffen and will be open for any team interested in participating. Practice will begin at noon and end at 9 p.m.

Thursday, Feb. 9 will feature a full regular open practice day for the UNOH All Star Circuit of Champions 410 Sprint Car Series, plus any other team in need of practice time. Admission for Thursday is $20 per person and includes pit admission. Children 12 and under are free for the practice. Gates will open at 10 a.m. and practice will run from 6-10 p.m.

The racing will kick off Friday, Feb. 10 with a full UNOH All Star Circuit of Champions Sprint Car event for $5,000 to win. The SMS Late Models will also compete in a full show for $1,500 to win. Admission to Friday's portion of the event is $35 per adult, which includes pit admission to get up close and personal with the stars of the UNOH All Star Circuit of Champions. Children 6 and under are free and children 7-12 are $15 and also includes pit admission. Gates will open at 10 a.m. with hot lap sessions at 5 p.m., and racing will begin shortly after hot lap sessions conclude.

Saturday, Feb. 12 will kick off early with special Mudd Drag racing at the Gee Chee Creek Mudd Drag and special Dirt Go Kart racing at the new Gamecock Speedway. Then as the night gets into full action, the UNOH All Star Circuit of Champions will battle another full show for $5,000 to win. Crate Late Models will also compete in a full show for $2,500 to win.

Admission for all of Saturday's events is $35 for adults, children 6 and under are free and children 7-12 are $15. Again the ticket price includes: admission to the Gee Chee Creek Mudd Drag, the Gamecock Speedway Go Kart Track, the full events at the Screven Motor Speedway and pit admission to all venues. Fans will be treated to three venues for one low ticket price plus pit access to each track included with your ticket. Gates will open at 10 a.m., practice will begin at 11:30 a.m. for dirt go karts and mudd drag at the Gamecock Speedway and Gee Chee Creek Mudd Drag and racing will begin shortly after practice concludes at both tracks. Hot laps will begin at 5 p.m. for all cars at Screven Motor Speedway with racing beginning shortly after the hot lap sessions conclude.

The UNOH All Stars then head to Volusia Speedway Park in Barberville, Fla. Wednesday and Thursday, Feb. 15 and 16 as part of the 41st Annual University of Northwestern Ohio DIRTcar Nationals presented by Summit Racing Equipment. Each night will pay the feature winner $5,000.

The 12-day Winter Nationals event running Feb. 14-25 at Volusia Speedway Park in Barberville, Fla., features World of Outlaws Sprint Cars, World of Outlaws Late Models, Super DIRTcar Series Big-Block Modifieds, DIRTcar UMP Modifieds, DIRTcar Late Models and UNOH All-Star Circuit of Champions Sprint Cars.

A major supporter of racing at all levels, UNOH will bring its all-student in-house DIRTcar UMP Modified teams to compete during the event, in addition to the ones driven by NASCAR racers Kenny Wallace, Ken Schrader, Austin Dillon and Ty Dillon.

“Competing at Volusia provides our students with the perfect opportunity to experience real-life racing situations while the sponsorship helps to give us the exposure we need to continue growing our motorsports program,” said Steve Farmer, UNOH VP of Corporate Development.

“The event itself is second-to-none and we’re very happy to play a role in making it a success.”
Sprint car legend Sammy Swindell swept both UNOH All Star Circuit of Champion events at Volusia in 2011. On the opening night Swindell weaved to the front and worked past Kraig Kinser to grab the lead on lap 7 of the 30-lap main event. Then the three-time World of Outlaws champion held off teammate Craig Dollansky to the checkered flag. Rising star David Gravel was third followed by Daryn Pittman and Greg Wilson.

On the second night of All Star competition, Swindell worked his way around Stevie Smith on lap 20 and held him off to the checkered flag. Kasey Kahne Racing's Cody Darrah was on the pole and finished third with Dale Blaney and Kraig Kinser rounding the top five.

Following the UNOH DIRTcar Nationals at Volusia, the UNOH All Star Circuit of Champions then wrap up their “Southern Swing” at Bubba Raceway Park (www.bubbaracewaypark.com) in Ocala, Fla. on Thursday, Friday and Saturday, Feb. 23-25. The features the first two nights of action at Bubba Raceway Park will pay $4,000 to win with the finale on Feb. 25 paying $7,000.

Nationally syndicated shock jock Bubba “The Love Sponge” Clem – a lifelong racing enthusiast - purchased the former Ocala Speedway last year. A race car driver himself, Clem, 45, hosts his five-day-per-week, talk-only radio show out of FM-102.5 in Tampa. He has already made several improvements to the track.

“We put down 300 truckloads of fresh clay, widened the track by about 20 feet and increased the banking in the turns from 7 degrees to 18 degrees,” Clem said. “We added more guard rails, concrete walls and $20,000 more (in) lighting.”
The UNOH All Stars then wrap up February racing at the track Feb. 22-25 (Wednesday is a practice session)..”

It looks like the chase to the UNOH All Stars Eastern Region Championship will be wide open, as defending regional champion Lance Dewease is still recovering from injuries he sustained late in the 2011 season and doesn’t plan to compete until April. Look for several of the “Pennsylvania Posse” members to contend for the title such as Daryn Pittman, Stevie Smith (in his new CL Motorsports Black Bandit #19 team), Fred Rahmer and more. But, they will have their hands full as The Steel City Outlaw Tim Shaffer – who has been competing in Australia over the winter months – looks to claim his fourth consecutive national UNOH All Star title. Shaffer, who led the series with 10 feature wins in 2011 – will once again drive the Aaron Call/Janet Holbrook Motorsports #83, but with a new crew chief in 2012. Three-time All Star champion Dale Blaney, who took 8 series victories in 2011, will once again be a force to deal with as he pilots the George Fisher Racing Ti22 Performance #2. Then throw in the young gun of DDR Motorsport’s #83 David Gravel, along with Danny Holtgraver, Pete Miller, Cap Henry and the racing action with quickly thaw the winter blues.

UNOH All Stars continue to bring excitement to more fans in 2012

CAMARGO, IL (1-30-12) By Brian Liskai – A new sponsor, television, new tracks and more excitement await sprint car fans and teams in 2012 as the University of Northwestern Ohio All Star Circuit of Champions get ready to embark on a truly historic season.

The UNOH All Star Circuit of Champions – the university in Lima, Ohio recently announced their partnership with “America’s Series” – will compete in 50-52 events in 2012.

“This will be a true partnership. We will sell this college to prospective students all over the Midwest. This is a great place and we are going to be a good recruiting partner. We are working with great people through the University of Northwestern Ohio,” stated Guy Webb of All Star Championship Racing.

Following the successful regionalization plan the UNOH All Stars incorporated in 2011 – Ohio Region, Eastern Region, Great Plains Region and National – the series is looking to build on that momentum in 2012.

“We added $27,000 to the series’ point fund…more teams competed with us and more teams earned more money. The interest from tracks with our series is up…we will be at seven to eight news places in 2012. The regional idea did what we hoped…we didn’t force teams to go to places they didn’t want to go and more teams made more money,” said Webb.

The 2012 season kicks off with seven events in Georgia and Florida as part of the Eastern Region points battle. It begins Feb. 10-11 at Screven Motor Speedway in Georgia, moves to Volusia Speedway Park on Feb. 15-16, and wraps up with a three day extravaganza at Bubba Raceway Park in Ocala, Fla. 23-25.
The series’ traditional Midwest opener will be held at the Spring Nationals at Attica Raceway Park on April 6-7 to kick off the Ohio Region series. Then it’s a three-race weekend in Pennsylvania Posse country for the Eastern Region battle April 27-19 at Williams Grove, Port Royal and Clinton County. The Port Royal event is a huge $15,000-to-win affair!

May will feature three Ohio region events – May 12 at Mercer Raceway Park and a Memorial Day double-header at Fremont Speedway in Fremont, Ohio May 26-27, including a $10,000-to-win wrap-up.

The month of June will no doubt have everything to say about who will be crowned the UNOH All Star champion with 12 events. It kicks off with three Eastern Region events on June 8-10 at Williams Grove, Lincoln and Utica Rome tracks.

Then it’s the 30th Annual Ohio Sprint Speedweek –9 races over nine nights across the Buckeye State. It kicks off at Attica on Friday, June 22, then to the bullring of Waynesfield Raceway Park on Saturday, and then on Sunday the UNOH All Stars will stop at Cannonball Motor Speedway. Monday will be held at Wayne County Speedway, and then Tuesday the series heads to Sharon Speedway and Wednesday for the first of two shows at Fremont Speedway. Thursday night will be at Hilltop Speedway before the traditional week-ending races at Limaland Motorsports Park on Friday, June 29 and the $10,000-to-win finale at Fremont Speedway on June 30.

July finds the UNOH All Stars heading to New York for two week-day events at Brewerton Speedway and Fonda Speedway on July 16 and July 18 before heading west for the traditional “Thunder Through the Plains.”

The Thunder Through the Plains will consist of 10 races for the $10,000-to-win Great Plains Regional point fund. It begins Saturday, July 21 at Wilmot Raceway in Wisconsin followed by a July 24 event at Hibbing Raceway. The series then moves to Red River Co-Op Speedway in Winnipeg, MB, Canada on July 26 and then back across the border to Jackson Speedway in Minnesota on July 27, followed by events on July 28 and 29 at Red River Valley Speedway in Fargo, N.D. and Husets Speedway in Brandon, S.D. respectively.

The UNOH All Stars are working on an event for Sunday, Aug. 5 before once again sanctioning the “Front Row Challenge” at Southern Iowa Speedway in Oskaloosa on Monday, Aug. 6. Following the Knoxville Nationals, the All Stars wrap up the Great Plains Region with a show at Husets Speedway on Aug. 12 and at Red River Valley on Aug. 15.

Then it’s back to the Ohio Region battle with the series’ only visit to Michigan on Aug. 18 at Butler Motor Speedway followed by Mercer Raceway Park in Western Pennsylvania on Aug. 25 and Lernerville Speedway on Aug. 31.

September will also be busy for the UNOH All Stars as they wrap up Attica’s season with the annual Ambush on Saturday, Sept. 1 followed by the final visit of the year to Wayne County on Sept. 2.

The Eastern Region point battle will conclude with a big weekend at Port Royal Speedway on Friday and Saturday, Sept. 7-8, which wraps up with a $10,000-to-win affair.
The All Star’s season – and that of the Ohio Region – will conclude with the two tracks that have hosted more series events then any other speed plants. Fremont Speedway will bring in the UNOH All Stars on Friday and Saturday, Sept. 14-15 for the annual Jim Ford Classic which includes a $10,000-to-win finale. Then, Tony Stewart’s Eldora Speedway will conclude the 2012 UNOH All Star Season on Oct. 13.

“We have many, many of our business partners who once again have come back on board in 2012 and have added several new businesses and we’re excited about the growth they have helped us and will continue to help us achieve,” concluded Webb.

The 2012 season also looks to have several more teams compete in the various regions. “The Steel City Outlaw” Tim Shaffer will look to win his fourth straight series championship. But three-time All Star champion Dale Blaney, along with young up-and-comers Danny Holtgraver, Cap Henry, Pete Miller and two-time series champion Greg Wilson will certainly have something to say about that possibility. Of course the tough Pennsylvania Posse members like All Star Eastern Region Champion Lance Dewease, Fred Rahmer, Daryn Pittman and more will provide plenty of excitement as teams battle for the $20,000-to-win championship.

Shaffer earns third straight UNOH All Star title
LIMA, OH (Jan. 22, 2012) By Brian Liskai – Aliquippa, Pennsylvania’s Tim Shaffer was crowned the champion of the University of Northwestern Ohio All Star Circuit of Champions Sprint Car Series during a gala banquet Sunday at the UNOH Events Center. It was the third straight All Star title for “The Steel City Outlaw.”

UNOH All Stars Guy Webb announced the series’ regionalization concept introduced in 2011 was a big success. The series had four separate point funds – the Ohio Region, Eastern Region, Great Plains Region and National – and sanctioned 37 races in 2011.

“We were able to attract more cars to more All Star events which was great for the fans and tracks and put more money into the hands of the teams. We have added $27,000 in point fund money this year due to the regional concept,” said Webb.

Shaffer’s 10 All Star victories in 2011 led the way to his championship in the National, Ohio Region and Great Plains Region and finished fourth in the Eastern Region. Shaffer’s team owners Janet Holbrook and Aaron Call accepted the hardware on his behalf as Shaffer is racing in Australia.

“We have to thank the members of the team during 2011…Brian Kemenah, James, Five-O…there were many who helped out throughout the year. It’s been unbelievable what we have been able to achieve. And, we’re ready to defend our titles in 2012. We are ready to have some fun this year,” said Holbrook. “We have to thank Paul Kistler and Kistler Engines and Racing Products, J&J Race Cars, VRP Shocks and everyone who has contributed to our success. And Tim Shaffer? What can I say; he has proven he is one of the best drivers in the world.”

Since teaming up with the C&H Motorsports team, Shaffer has compiled 38 All Star wins since 2008 and now has 45 career victories in the series to sit sixth on the all-time win list.

Three-time All Star champion Dale Blaney finished second to Shaffer in the National, Ohio Region and Great Plains Region points and third in the Eastern Region and ended 2011 with eight series wins. Blaney has scored 30 All Star wins since 2007 and now has 84 career victories with the series to sit second on the all-time win list behind Kenny Jacobs 98 career wins.

“We were good this year, but the 83 team was better. Tim is a good friend and a hell of a race car driver. He paid his dues on the road all those years and now it’s paying off. That team has set the bar pretty high and we all have to work hard to get to that level,” said Blaney. “George (Fisher, car owner and mechanic) and I have been together a long time now which is pretty remarkable in today’s racing environment. That speaks a lot about our friendship.”

Fisher was named the UNOH All Star’s Crew Chief of the Year as well.

“We had a good year. Dale and I communicate very well…we are like brothers. I would like to thank Ti-22 for all their help and support. We will be back stronger in 2012 and hopefully get more wins,” said Fisher.

Fayetteville, Pennsylvania’s Lance Dewease was on hand to collect his title as the All Star’s Eastern Region champion. Dewease, who scored two series’ wins in 2011 to take his career total to 29, is recovering from neck and back surgeries from injuries he suffered in a late season crash.

“This Eastern Region deal was tough. Not only did we have to compete against Shaffer and Blaney, but Daryn Pittman was hot this past year (3 All Star wins) and throw in Stevie Smith, Fred Rahmer and all the Posse drivers…it’s doesn’t get much tougher,” said Dewease. “We are in rehab and will continue to get better every day. Just to be able to walk into this banquet is a success. We will continue to work hard on healing and probably won’t be back out until April.”

Pete Miller III of Port Vue, Pa., was named the UNOH All Star’s Rookie of the Year for 2011. He finished fifth in the National points, ninth in the Ohio Region, seventh in the Great Plains Region and 10th in the Eastern Region.

“I have to thank my mom and dad and every one of the teams in this room. They all helped me so much and I learned more than could have ever imagined. I got to race on many new tracks and look forward to going back in 2012,” said Miller.

Other drivers attending the banquet were 2010 All Star Rookie of the Year Cap Henry, who finished fourth in the National points, eighth in the Ohio Region, fourth in the Great Plains Region and eighth in the Eastern Region. Two-time All Star champion Greg Wilson announced he would be back stronger in 2012 with Kemenah joining the team. Wilson finished sixth in the National points, fifth in the Ohio and Great Plains Regions. Cole Duncan, who finished 10th in the Ohio Region points, announced he would be teaming up with Tony Kennedy in 2012 and planned to run for the Ohio Region title. Bryan Grove, owner of the #45 driven in 2011 by Rob Chaney to a 7th place finish in the Ohio Region points, announced Paul McMahan would pilot his sprint car in 2012.

David Gravel, who finished third in the National and Ohio Region points and sixth in the Great Plains and Eastern Region, was unable to attend.

Webb also was excited about partnering with UNOH. “We will sell this college and help recruit students. This is a great place filled with great people.”

The UNOH All Stars released their 2012 schedule with 50-52 events. Webb said there are “seven to eight new tracks” and the 30th Annual Ohio Sprint Speedweek will feature eight and possibly nine races over nine days.
